Momentum risks undermining its own cause

A simple trawl through the Facebook pages of Momentum reveals a number of posts which are quite incredulous, there are filled full of undemocratic, entryism, in some cases misogynist and hypocritical posts. While some of these posts appear on the main Momentum page – this is by and large pro Labour, pro Corbyn and anti Tory. However go to the local branch pages and this is where things take a different turn.

Posts appear which are critical about the labour party, with comments about having to hold ones nose while voting for them. Decrying other parts of the party specifically Progress, who they claim are trying to marginalise them, yet at the same time pointing out exactly what they need to do to remove Progress, and removing MPs who are not fervently loyal to Corby.

The result of the Election should have been a rallying cry to present the party as a united front, where as the local branches of Momentum have been waging an internecine war. They are dragging the party though the mud, unearthing dirt against their own party, and then plastering it all over social media, in an airing of the dirtiest of laundry.

This is the same issue I have with some the left wing media, who gained a lot of credibility in the pre election period, reporting on things the mainstream media didn’t. However since then they have turned inwards looking to purge the Labour Party of anyone who doesn’t share their view. This is done in the name of ‘democracy’ but they are anything but democratic in their approach.

I also have issues with the left wing media delving into ad revenue chasing sensationalists. Where as they were a huge influencer last election, they are undoing all that work especially to those who are not necessarily wedded to the Labour cause. They were able to harness mass readership, and now they have it, they need to be carefull and consider what they are projecting.

The left needs to learn how to work with others, or once again risk tearing its self and the party apart, and undermining the very cause for they stand.

Yes before I know I am being hypocritical against my own point here by posting this. No I am not advocating that people don’t speak out, just that they consider what they saying, and those who run Momentum local branches pages, should be more savvy or maybe its a time to the leadership of Momentum to step up and take ownership of their members and their action, and present a plan to unify the broad church of views in a common direction.

I ask what is more important. Putting up a united front against the Torys, or trying to purge in public those of differing views.
